Check it out… Elly and Dan have written a great press release for the Expo. It is being sent out to local news this weekend (December 10th).
For Immediate Release:
Woodstock Teen Creates Environmental Expo
“Even though our lives depend on the quality of our most vital natural resources such as clean air and water, many of us are unaware that every little action we take affects the environment in a big way. And even worse, most of us are unaware of what we can do to lessen our environmental impact.”
These are the words of Woodstock teen Max Edmands, who is creating an Environmental Expo as a Boy Scout Eagle service project. It will be held on Saturday, February 4th, from 8am to 6pm. The Woodstock Environmental Commission has not only enthusiastically endorsed the project, but is sponsoring the Expo so that it can be held at the Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road in Woodstock.
There will be no admission charge to the Expo, which will feature exhibits, speakers, demonstrations, live music, and free refreshments donated by area businesses. Dozens of energy and environmental groups have been invited to participate, with the Ashokan Field Campus, the New York City DEP, and the Catskill Mountain chapter of Trout Unlimited already committed to be there. Mary Phillips-Burke, Chairperson of The Woodstock Environmental Commission, says that the 7-member commission was delighted to be approached by Edmands and is excited that the Expo will raise awareness and involvement among young people.
Edmands has already gotten community youth involved in promoting the event. Area students will make posters supporting the environment and then there will be a contest for the best poster at the Expo. Elementary students will decorate shopping bags with ads for the Expo, and then the bags will be used at Sunflower Natural Foods in Woodstock.
“Spreading knowledge about important issues like this one is the first step to making huge positive changes in the world. The Environmental Expo will be a great opportunity for everyday people, like you and me, to see what we can do to lessen our own impact on the environment.”
